Landscape Turf Installation in Los Angeles
A front lawn that stays green through an August heat wave, a back yard you can use the morning after rain, and no sprinkler bill. Landscape turf is the system we install most often, and the one where the base underneath makes the biggest difference.
Built for the way Los Angeles yards actually get used
Landscape turf is the general-purpose system: soft enough to sit on, dense enough to walk across every day, and realistic enough that people notice the yard rather than the material. We specify a multi-tone yarn with a tan thatch layer underneath, which is what stops a lawn from reading as plastic from the sidewalk.
The part that decides whether it still looks right in year five is not the turf — it is the three to four inches of compacted aggregate beneath it, the fall we build into the grade, and the edging that holds the whole assembly in place. That is where our crews spend most of their time.
What a landscape turf installation includes
- Full site preparation
Existing lawn, roots and 3–4 inches of soil excavated and hauled away, sub-grade treated so nothing pushes back through.
- Compacted aggregate base
Crushed aggregate spread, graded to a deliberate fall and compacted in passes until it is genuinely solid underfoot.
- Permeable weed barrier
A geotextile layer that blocks growth from below while letting rainwater straight through to the base.
- Invisible seams
Edges trimmed stitch by stitch and joined over seam tape with outdoor adhesive. Done properly, you should not be able to find them.
- Silica sand infill
Spread and power-brushed in to weight the turf, support the blades and keep them standing upright for years.
- Finished edging
Hidden bender board, steel, or a paver border — chosen with you to suit how the lawn meets the rest of the yard.
Where landscape turf works best
Front yards
The highest-visibility lawn on the property and usually the first thing we are asked about. Curb appeal that does not depend on the weather.
Back yards and side yards
Including the narrow, shaded strips down the side of a house where real grass has never grown properly.
Around pools and patios
No mud tracked into the water, no clippings on the deck, and a soft landing between hardscape areas.
Per square foot installed. A straightforward, accessible yard sits at the lower end; heavier turf, complex shapes and upgraded edging move it up.
Landscape Turf — frequently asked
How natural does landscape turf actually look?
Close enough that most visitors do not notice until they touch it. The difference comes from yarn quality — multiple green tones plus a brown thatch layer — and from installation detail: matched blade direction, invisible seams and a properly brushed finish. Cheap single-tone turf on a rushed base is what gives artificial grass a bad name.
Will it fade in the Los Angeles sun?
Quality landscape turf is UV-stabilized and holds its color for the life of the installation. You may see very slight softening of tone over a decade of full sun, but nothing like the yellowing that low-grade product shows within a couple of seasons.
Can I put furniture on it?
Yes. Patio furniture, planters and play equipment are all fine. For very heavy items left in one spot for years, we recommend a paver pad underneath so the blades are not permanently compressed.
